Situated in Mujeres Bay five miles north of Cancun, Isla Mujeres offers a relaxing slow-paced atmosphere in sharp contrast to that found in its cross bay neighbor. The island is five miles long and a half-mile wide.

El Garrafón National Park on the southwest shore of the island is a stop for the day trips from Cancun. Activities on the island include the usual snorkeling and scuba diving found in the area.

Situated at a depth of sixty feet off the coast of "Isla", The Cave of the Sleeping Sharks attracts seasoned divers to view a natural enigma as sharks need to be moving constantly for their breathing process. Isla Contoy, a wildlife refuge, is close to Isla Mujeres.

Though a modern marina offers slips and shelter to yachts from around the world, modest hotels and restaurants prevail on the island's beaches.
